The Story of the Suvi Girl Product Line
I have always enjoyed crafting, sewing, and creating. Pair that with my interest in recycling fabrics and giving new uses to otherwise-rejected clothing items, the first Suvi Girl handbags were created in December of 2014 as gifts for some favorite people in Suvi’s Fan Club.
Following Suvi’s tragic death and the immensity of the void left in my life, I desired to pay tribute to Suvi and to harness the huge energy of grief. I turned to sewing, creating, and crafting Suvi Girl products. Using recycled, felted wool and other cast-out fabrics, every handbag is created with care and with intention. Much thought is given to choosing the color scheme, felting details, and sizing in order that each bag is both functional and beautiful. There is simplicity, uniqueness, and beauty in each handbag; and this is what Suvi Girl was (and is) all about.
Suvi’s Story
Suvi came to me at the start of summer vacation in June 2012. The search for the right name for this precocious, wiggly, sweet, cute, and independent puppy was a search in itself. With help from others, I sorted through lists of possibilities, including names from the Finnish calendar. At some point, we landed on “Suvi”. It sounded so right. “Suvi” means “summer”, and as we were embarking on summer vacation, it added a note of “this is just right” to the name. A day or two later, I looked again to the Finnish cal
endar and found that Suvi’s name day is on June 7th, which is the day I brought her home. That really was the start of the magic this little princess brought into my life (as well as into the lives of so many others).
Together, Suvi and I hiked, ran, swam, climbed mountains, transitioned through life and learning and experiences. She was present, loyal, constant in her charm, and truly a best friend. Memories of her are rich, abundant, cherished, and sewn into every product of the Suvi Girl line.
